Karl Wiegers is the Principal Consultant at Process Impact, a software development consulting and training company.
Previously, he spent 18 years at Kodak as a research scientist,
software developer, software manager, and software process and quality improvement leader. Karl has a PhD
in organic chemistry. During the past fifty years Karl has designed chemistry
experiments, software applications and user interfaces, software development processes, books, songs, games,
and training courses.
Karl is the author of nine previous books on consulting, software requirements, project management, and software quality,
as well as a memoir of life lessons and a forensic mystery novel, The Reconstruction.
Several of Karl's books have won awards, most recently the Society for Technical Communication's Award of
Excellence for Software Requirements, 3rd Edition (co-authored with Joy Beatty). Karl has served on the
Editorial Board for IEEE Software magazine and as a contributing editor for Software Development magazine.
When he's not at the keyboard, Karl enjoys wine tasting, volunteering at Meals on Wheels and the public library, traveling,
reading about military history and science, playing guitar, and writing and recording songs.
Karl lives in Happy Valley, Oregon, with his wife, Chris, and five guitars.
